Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQ
-
Floating, or sensory deprivation therapy, is a healing practice that eliminates all external stimuli (no light, no noise, no sound, no gravity) to help your mind and body relax and rejuvenate. Floating is a powerful therapeutic practice that reduces pain, swelling, and stress in both the body and the mind.
-
As often as you’d like! It is a personal choice, and everyone’s wellness practice varies. Some people choose to float weekly or bi-weekly, while others will schedule appointments around significant life events. If you are interested in floating regularly, check out our memberships page.
-
You can schedule an appointment by using our online scheduler or by calling us at 609-712-1618.
-
It depends. Sometimes, we receive last-minute cancellations and will have available tanks. Please follow us on Instagram to stay up to date on our last-minute availability. We highly recommend that you schedule an appointment in advance to secure a float, as we are often booked out a week ahead.
-
We require at least 24-hours’ notice if you need to cancel your appointment for any reason. Appointments that are canceled fewer than 24 hours in advance will be charged a cancellation fee of $40 to the payment method on file.
-
We provide towels, robes, sandals, and all necessary toiletries in each private float suite. We also have blow dryers. You are welcome to bring your own towel and toiletries. We recommend comfortable clothes for your post float glow.
-
Any article of clothing you take into the tank will become caked in salt when it dries due to the high salinity. We encourage you to be free. Clothing items add unnecessary sensory input that can distract you from reaching blissful relaxation. For your comfort, our floating suites are completely private and include changing and shower areas.
-
We offer a 90 minute window to all of our guests. If it is your first float, you will probably spend about 75 minutes in the pool. We have determined over the course of tens of thousands of floats that this timing provides you with the best opportunity to have a great first float.
-
At the end of the float, we will gently wake you with underwater audio and visual cues inside of the floating pool. We can make these cues VERY insistent, so don’t worry for a second that you’ll miss them. You’ll hear more about this directly before your appointment.
Health & Wellness FAQ
-
Unfortunately, flotation therapy is not currently covered by medical insurance. However, we do accept flex spending cards.
-
The high salinity creates an environment that is incredibly sterile, and makes it near impossible for any pathogenic organisms to reproduce. In between each guest, the solution is filtered through a 5 micron sediment filter. This removes very small particulates from the salt solution. We then pass the solution through an NSF Certified Ultraviolet Filter. This UV light inactivates cellular material and is the same one used to make drinking water safe. We then use Ozone, or O3 with H2O2, to ensure full oxidation and sterilization.
-
We have custom designed some of the largest float surfaces that exist today. Unlike traditional floatation pods, our tanks are spacious enough to stand up and walk around in. They are about the size of a household bathroom, measuring six feet wide by nine feet long with ceilings that are seven feet tall. You may also choose to leave the lights on and/or have your tank door slightly ajar during your float. If you're concerned, feel free to stop by and take a look at the tank area before scheduling an appointment.
-
No matter your size or weight, you will be able to float in our tanks.
-
Anything is possible, however the chances of you drowning in a float tank are significantly less than being bitten by a shark. The salt solution is denser than a human body. Even if you fall asleep, you will remain afloat. We have run over 60,000 floats with no safety issues.
-
Absolutely. However, we request your float be cleared by your physician. Floating while pregnant has significant positive benefits for both mother and baby. Particularly in the second and third trimesters, floating can provide an environment which offers relief from the wonderful pressures, pains, and additional weight that pregnancy brings. Epsom salts reduce swelling and inflammation throughout the body while correcting any magnesium deficiency, which is especially important while building a new human.
-
It will be uncomfortable and it will sting, but it will not cause any long-term issues. We have a spray bottle with clean water inside the tank. You may also leave the tank to rinse off and/or grab a towel. We recommend that you avoid touching your face when you’re inside the tank to reduce the risk of getting salt water in your eyes.
-
We will not allow you to float if you:
Have open wounds or new tattoos
Have colored your hair within 7 days of your appointment
Have an infectious skin disorder
Have incontinence
Have uncontrolled epilepsy
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone at any time.
-
A few things to keep in mind:
If you have kidney or liver disease or problems, floating may not be right for you. Please check with your physician prior to making an appointment.
Don’t shave before your appointment. The salt water will irritate your skin.
Remove your contacts prior to floating. We provide a contact case (and solution) in each room if you forget yours.
Try not to consume caffeine before your float, as it may prevent you from relaxing.
If you are menstruating, please follow the same precautions that you would when using a public pool.
